Born in Chennai and educated in Coimbatore, Chennai and the United States, Anuradha Sriram turns 49 today. She has sung over 3,000 songs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi movies and has performed extensively on the classical music stage. Trained by stalwarts like Thanjavur S Kalyanaraman, Sangeetha Kalanidhi T Brinda and T Viswanathan in Carnatic music and with Pandit Mannikbua Thakurdas in the Hindustani style, she has also studied classical western opera and jazz in the USA.
Anuradha’s first film was the 1980 Tamil Rajinikanth starrer Kaali. Her first song for a film was Malarodu malaringu in Bombay (1995), with music by AR Rahman. Since then she has sung extensively for Rahman, as well as for other well known composers. She also performs more classical music with her husband, violinist Sriram Parasuram. The couple has composed the music for Five Star, a 2002 Tamil film.
