Remember Cats, the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical that is based on TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, a collection of poems written in a light, rhythmic style? It has been made into a film before in 1998, directed by David Mallet and starring Elaine Page, John Mills and other actors. Now a new version is being readied for release at the end of this year, this one directed by Oscar winner Tom Hooper and starring a whole galaxy of stars.
Here is the list:
Idris Alba – Macavity
Taylor Swift – Bombalurina
Jennifer Hudson – Grizabella
Judi Dench – Old Deuteronomy
Ian McKellen – Gus
Jason Derulo – Rum Tum Tugger
James Corden – Bustopher Jones
And a whole host of dancers, including ballerina Francesca Hayward.

And the musical stars were fairly vocal about being part of the classic tale.
Taylor Swift: As a cat lover and a cat owner, if you told me I was going to get to go to cat school every day for work….what! My first memories of performance go back to when I was in Pennsylvania, growing up. My favourite thing was getting to be theatrical, to tell a story and I’ve always brought that sort of narrative element to my live shows. About cats – this musical is timeless. And we got to update it in ways that I think are just so so so great! I came right off of a stadium tour and went right into rehearsals. I was just excited and really so honoured to be a part of this…
Jason Derulo – I was always obsessed with singing, obsessed with dancing – it started off with me the kitchen with my socks on, trying to do the moonwalk and I think you need to choose something that you are so obsessed with that you want to do it all the time.
Jennifer Hudson – When I first heard that I was going to be in Cats, instantly I felt the pressure. This film is an event!
