Gat gat from Dream Girl is a lively Punjabi track! Heard it?

In the era of recreations and re-releases, anything new comes as a breath of breathable – if not entirely fresh – air. So when we first heard the story of Dream Girl and watched the trailer and teasers, we expected fun, games and lots of giggles from our fave hero, Ayushmann Khurrana, who seems to be going great guns with his career right now. Ergo, when we heard that a new song was releasing today, life seemed to be happier and brighter. And then we heard and watched Gat gat. Sigh…

Yes, it is lively. Yes, it is not a rejigged song. Yes, it is fun and lively. Yes, it is flavour du jour, pure Punjabi. And yes, Ayushmann and co-star Nushrat Bharucha do a fab job with their moves and their very expressive faces. Here, dekh lo, sun lo!

But no, there is nothing extraordinary about Gat gat and that is what we were looking for. The backdrops, like in Radhe Radhe, are patently plastic – which in a way is fun and hatke – from the faux colosseum to the glitzy mansion with very interesting artwork. We know this one will become a party favourite this season, the syncopated beat and the dance-to-able rhythm coaxing people on to the dance floor. Do we want more? For sure!

The music for Gat gat is by the Meet Bros, with lyrics by Kumaar. It is sung by Jass Zaildar and Khushboo Grewal – who sounds amazingly like a young Sunidhi Chauhan, no?

What do you think of Gat gat from Dream Girl? Are you dancing yet? We want to know!
