Marshmello accused of plagiarism

DJ Marshmello has been accused of copyright infringement by fellow DJ and producer Arty.

Artem Stoliarov, who performs under the stage name Arty has claimed that Marshmello’s hit Happier is almost a replica of his remix of One Republic’s I Lived.

Arty has stated that Marshmello and he have frequently performed together and the two are familiar with each other’s work. He claims that Marshmello used almost all the notes in the melody from the I Lived remix in exactly the same order. As a result, he is suing him.

You can listen to both songs and decide for yourself.

Circumstances are more in Arty’s favour than Marshmello’s as Arty is represented by a prominent lawyer called Richard Brusch. He has won many big cases including one of the major plagiarism cases of this decade. It was he who won the case against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams. They were accused of plagiarising Marvin Gaye’s song Gotta give it up for their hit song Blurred lines. Brusch represented Marvin Gaye’s family.
