Music star Monali Thakur has a grouch. According to the Moh moh ke dhaage singer, the music industry in India is male-driven and provides female singers wit much fewer opportunities. “Out of a thousand songs created, only about ten would be female solo, maybe.” But when you think about it, she has much less to gripe about than many of her peers. Ever since she won the National Award for the Dum Laga Ke Haisha song, she has been getting assignments more easily than before and public recognition has increased. Which should make her happy, no? But “The industry is so messed up that newcomers should be wise enough to decide what is good and what is bad for them,” Thakur said. At which stage we need to ask if she now knows what is what – and if so, why complain!
