Joan Jett: The original rock chick turns 61 today!

American rock singer, songwriter, composer, musician, record producer and occasional actress – Joan Jett wears a lot of hats. She was born Joan Marie Larkin but changed her name to suit her music. Her performance career started with the Runaways and the hit song Cherry bomb, but she really came into her own as frontwoman of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, making I love rock and roll into an iconic track defining the genre. Songs like Bad reputation, Crimson and clover, Do you wanna touch me, Light of day, I hate myself for loving you and many others cemented her status as goddess of black leather, black hair and the electric guitar.

Jett is a mezzo-soprano and a feminist icon. He nicknames include Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll and Godmother of Punk. She is not just an inductee – with her band – into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but a founder member of all things tough and feminine.

To celebrate this icon’s 61st birthday, SoundboxIndia wants you to listen to 3 of her classic songs….
